What is a Franchise Agreement

A long term contract between a city and Oklahoma Natural Gas that allows the company to place, operate and maintain natural gas pipelines and other equipment within public areas such as streets and utility easements.

What is a franchise election

Since franchise agreements involve public property, Oklahoma law requires voter approval. In a franchise election, residents vote on whether their city should approve or renew a franchise agreement with Oklahoma Natural Gas.

How Customers Benefit

Franchise agreements help support:

  • Safety: Regular inspection and maintenance of gas lines and equipment.
  • Reliability: Ongoing operation, maintenance and upgrades to the natural gas system serving homes and businesses.
  • Public Investment: Franchise fees collected on behalf of the city support public services and improvements.
  • Long-Term Planning: Provides the long-term access and stability Oklahoma Natural Gas needs to plan and invest in infrastructure for future community growth.
